When to change safety shoes?

If everyday shoes wear out and need to be replaced periodically, imagine how important this is in the case of a safety shoe whose function is to protect our feet.

It is obvious that work shoes are prone to sustain more wear and tear than an ordinary shoe, first of all because they are used daily and then because they are subject to continuous stress.

Therefore, it is very important to check them often and replace them as soon as signs of failure are found or they have fulfilled their protective function by suffering an accident.

There is no exact timetable because it depends on many factors: frequency of use, working environment, substances they come into contact with, maintenance done, etc....
In general, it can be said that safety footwear should be replaced every six months because, although they may appear to be in good condition on the surface, some of the materials used to ensure the level of protection deteriorate over time and, although at first glance they appear to be in good condition, the degree of safety may be compromised.

Let's look together at U-POWER 's tips and answers to frequently asked questions.

Do work shoes have an expiration date? Safety shoes: how often should they be changed? Let's see together how to know when to change safety shoes!

One of the most frequently asked questions about safety shoes is about durability; or rather, the question is: how often should they be changed?

This seems like an easy question to answer, but in fact, there is no single answer, because the durability of work shoes depends on several factors that are not fixed, but change from person to person.

Factors such as: the frequency of use and the work environment, the substances the shoes come into contact with, and how often we clean and maintain our shoes.

How, then, to know when is the right time to change shoes?

The only way, other than the general indication of replacement every six months (assuming daily use of the shoe), is to constantly check the actual state of wear and any signs of failure of the shoe .

Which parts are most at risk-what exactly do we need to check?

Usually, the parts most at risk are the tread and the upper.
The sole of the shoe is the part of the shoe that is most stressed. In fact, it supports the weight of the body, flexes with movement, and absorbs the shocks that the sole of the foot experiences.
It is best to periodically clean the sole for a condition check and to check for cracks.
The upper is also stressed with every movement. The parts most at risk are the stitching-where present-and the point of contact between the upper and the tread, which are assembled with special glues and can become detached over time due to excessive workload.
Should one of these cases occur, it is advisable to replace the shoe immediately and absolutely refrain from trying to repair it yourself to avoid compromising safety.

What should be done if the shoe has suffered an accident stress?

If the work shoe has suffered a work accident stress such as partial crushing of the toe box or perforation of the sole, the shoe should be replaced immediately.
A safety shoe serves to protect our foot, once protected it has completed its job and is compromised. Its degree of protection at this point is affected and replacement with a new, undamaged shoe is necessary to work safely.

As we have already pointed out, shoe durability depends on the frequency of use and the work environment. Given equal use, a warehouse worker 's shoe can be assumed to last longer than that of a worker on a construction site or someone who is in contact with, for example, dust and chemicals.

But how much does quality influence?

Quality has a significant influence because the better the materials from which the shoe is constructed, the lower the risks of incurring situations of possible premature deterioration of materials and/or possible failure of the seams or glues used to assemble the parts.
All workers who use work shoes should, in addition, pay special attention to the care of their safety shoes and be well aware of how to check their integrity, when to replace them, and how to dispose of this product.

U-POWER has always been synonymous with High Quality. It is harmony in the use of materials, all of which are innovative, combining perfectly with cutting-edge technology to produce durable work shoes that guarantee high performance.
