WHEN ARE ACCIDENT-PREVENTION GLOVES REQUIRED?

When the work activity may pose a danger to the hands, the work glove becomes an obligation. It is the employer who, considering the magnitude of the risk, the frequency of exposure, the characteristics of the workplace of each employee, provides protective gloves according to the required protection requirements.

PPE gloves are regulated by EN 420, which establishes their minimum requirements related to:

In the case of activities that require manual operations with materials that can cause cuts and wounds, the protective glove against mechanical hazards is not sufficient. In these cases, the use of specific PPE that provides even greater resistance without compromising dexterity for handling and precision work is necessary.
The reference standard is, again, EN 388, which defines the resistance levels of the fabric and other glove materials.
Cut resistance is defined with tests to measure the number of cycles required for the circular blade to cut the glove at a constant speed and the pressure to which the fabric yields after a 20 mm blade pass.
