There are trades, especially in the craft field, that we are used to considering based on our personal needs. In the sense that we only call theplumber if we have a problem with a faucet, a broken pipe or problems of that kind but these are not the only (though very common) skills of a plumber.
What does a plumber's typical day look like, and what kind of situations does he or she face every day?

Being aplumber does not only mean carrying out repair or replacement work at home but, very often, it means working on a construction site and carrying out the entire plumbing system of a house or building, providing thegas system, installation of solar and heating systems, irrigation systems, and much more. And the work situation changes: the prime is indoor work, the latter outdoor work in variable and often heavy weather conditions.

NICOLA'S STORY: FROM A PASSION FOR WATER TO A JOB CHOICE

When we met Nicola, we immediately sensed his passion for the trade he has been doing, now for some 15 years, and his eagerness to tell us how it all began.

U-Power:

-"Good morning Nicola, tell us your story and the motivations that led you to choose to be aplumber."

Nicola:

- "Ever since I was a child, I have always had a passion for repairs. I would often take toys apart and then put them back together, and I would follow my father when he did maintenance work around the house. But I also had a special passion for water, which I played with nonstop, much to my mother's delight!
And when the time came, I had no doubts:plumbing was my path. I started as an apprentice and today I have my own business with six employees."

U-Power:

- "What services are you most in demand for?"

Nicola:

-"It depends.We go from small repairs to redoing theplumbing of the entire house during renovation, such asinstalling photovoltaic panels and making complete systems - I mean plumbing and heating systems- but also air conditioning on new homes and, therefore, on construction sites.These jobs are very challenging, especially because of the need to respond to the new demands of eco-sustainability and savings.Let's not forget that water is one of the most precious commodities! Then, during the summer period, we are also often asked to work on irrigation systems to optimize their operation, again in the theme of savings and sustainability."

U-Power:

-"Speaking of eco-sustainability, is it possible to think of achieving the dream of a 0-impact house ?"

Nicola:

-"Ah, that would be a dream! Unfortunately, however, achieving a zero-impact house, although possible, comes at a very high cost. However, steps can be taken that can improve the environmental impact and efficiency of the house. Replacing the old boiler with a condensing one, for example, or installing a heating system, perhaps taking advantage of the various ecobonuses that are enacted periodically."

WORK SITUATIONS COMPARED: HOME VS. CONSTRUCTION SITE INTERVENTION

U-Power:

-"You mentioned earlier that you happen to work indifferently at the construction site as well as at home, which do you prefer?"

Nicola:

- "That's a really bell question. As I said before, working on new plants is very stimulating for me, because it allows me to start from scratch and build the plant from scratch, to experiment with new technologies and try to get the best results also in regard to eco-sustainability issues .
I also like human contact, though, and I'm a talker. I have a large customer base and enjoy working on repairs; as I mentioned, it's a passion I've carried with me since I was a child....
However, there is one factor that makes a difference: the weather. Working on a construction site, in the cold in the winter and in the heat in the summer, is not always pleasant. Whereas if you do a repair at home, the temperature is always pleasant and often we even get away with a coffee! "

U-Power:

-"So I suppose the way you dress also changes according to the types of work you have to do during the day..."

Nicola:

- "Yes and no, in the sense that the shoes are always the same. I mean I have to wear safetyshoes for protection: it is a legal obligation but besides a duty it is also a necessity if you want to work safely. Not only for me, also for my employees.
Forclothing, on the other hand, if you work on a construction site in the winter, you need to keep warm, so you need to use technical clothing with heat-preserving fabrics; if you're doing an operation at home, when you go in, you take off your jacket; you can also stay lighter."

WORKWEAR: WHAT TO CHOOSE IN SUMMER?

U-Power:

- "What about in summer?"

Nicola:

- "And in the summer it's a cakewalk, whether you're working at home or on the construction site; unless you're in the blazing sun, there it's another story. I prefer hot to cold, though, also because of a question of freedom of movement, both of the arms and the legs: the more clothing you wear, the more you risk feeling self-conscious.
Although since I discovered U-Power, I have literally solved this problem!"

U-Power:

- "Are you referring to any particular product?"

Nicola:

-"More than a product, I'm referring to a very stretchy, light and breathable fabric that follows the body's movements (Editor's note: U-4) and that, I think, characterizes a whole range (Editor's note: the Future line ). From this line I bought the long pants and the Bermuda shorts, which I alternate according to the needs of my work schedule, and then, since I was happy with them, I also got the vest, which is very functional and full of pockets."

U-Power:

-"Okay, I think I understand that you are referring to the Future range/assortment and the World pants, the Mercury Bermuda shorts and the Universe vest that are now available in different colors. Can I ask you which color you chose?"

Nicola:

- "I chose the gray version with the reflex details in green, which is my favorite color but the other colors were not bad either."
