High-visibility clothing: your safety at work!

There are more and more areas for which high-visibilityworkwear is required, especially in those areas where work operations take place near moving vehicles, motorized vehicles, cranes, etc., and in all those situations where visibility is poor.
Then, in the fall season, as well as in winter, the days get darker and often, in addition to the reduction of daylight hours, one has to cope with unfavorable weather conditions - fog, mist, rain, etc. - which further limit visibility, increasing the risks of accidents and injuries in the workplace.

To ensure the safety of the worker and reduce the risks of injury as much as possible, the European Community intervened, issuing a regulation with the minimum essential requirements for all those who find themselves working in high-risk situations: the EN ISO 20471:2013 standard, then updated at various times until thelatest revision in 2017.

What does the European regulation/standard require?

a. Who does the regulation/standard UNI EN ISO 20471address ?

We have already anticipated this: the standard is aimed at all those who are called upon to work in high-risk situations and near moving motorized vehicles and/or in low visibility conditions, such as road construction site, airport, etc.

b. What does the UNI EN ISO 20471:2017regulation/standard provide ?

The regulation specifies the requirements for high-visibility clothing in order to visually signal the person's presence. The more dangerous the work situation, the greater the minimum mandatory requirements for personal protective equipment, whether it is high-visibility pants, a man's reflective suit as well as high-visibility safety shoes.

c. How is high-visibility workwearclassified ?

High-visibility clothing is divided into three safety ratings from 1 to 3, where class 3 indicates the maximum level of protection (see our previous article). In short, the higher the hazard, the larger the area of retro-reflective, fluorescent and/or combined material to be put on the clothing.

d. Where do I find the class information when I am going to buy high visibility personal protective equipment?

All high-visibility workwear must mandatorily meet the marking requirements defined by the standard, along with the words "high-visibility garment." All styles in U-POWER'sHI-LIGHT range/assortment are safety rating 2.

e. What kind of maintenance doeshigh-visibility clothing require-how is it washed?

The dirtier a high-visibility garment is, the less visible it will be: it is essential to wash high-visibility clothing often to ensure its protective effectiveness!
Washing instructions should be mandatory in the marking, along with the maximum number of cleaning cycles, which indicate when the garment should be replaced.

f. What other features musthigh-visibility clothinghave?

Those who usehigh-visibility clothing must often work in outdoor places for many hours and are, therefore, subject to the elements: rain, wind, cold, wet; but also sun and heat, in the summer season. PRIME PADDED VEST

Warm, snug and comfortable, PRIME is a padded vest with a central zipper closure topped with frontal paramonture to improve insulation from rain and vento.
